Muscat, Oct 17 (ONA)-The celebrations to mark the Omani Woman's Day, which falls on October 17th each year, commenced today by organizing the Omani Woman Forum "A partner in Development" at Al Bustan Palace Hotel, under the auspices of Dr. Ali bin Mohammed bin Moosa, Deputy Chairman of the CBO Board of Governors and Chairman of the Tender Board and lasts for two days.
At the beginning of the Forum, Dr. Sharifah bint Khalfan al Yahyaeyah, Social Development Minister delivered a speech where she pointed out that the positive honorable picture of the Omani Woman deepens every day to add new pages to the Omani rich history to give strong examples of the Omani woman's persistence and her contribution to building Oman. ‘The Omani society, since early ages, is based on the participation of all members of society, males and females, in all the social and economic aspects of life, she added.
‘Those who follow the Omani bright history will realize that men and women have contributed to the building of the Omani culture which has been and still is known for being balanced and having deeply contributed to the world culture. The Omani woman today feels proud of the achievements made for her under the wise leadership of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said in all fields and domains, she furthered.
‘Everyone in Oman, both men and women, are equal in rights and obligation and enjoy fair opportunities. The reality confirms this as the progress is made on the hands of male and female citizens, she continued.
She affirmed that the Omani woman, thanks to the availed education, training and employment opportunities and her endeavor to improve her skills, has contributed to the dignity and service of this nation. She answered the call of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said who said that the nation, in its blessed march, needs the efforts of man and woman as well.
On his part Dr. Ali bin Mohammed bin Moosa said that His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said's dedication of the October 17th as the Omani Woman's Day comes in recognition of her role and contributions to laying down the pillars of the blessed Renaissance during the last 40 years.
In a statement to reporters, he added that marking the Omani Woman's Day today comes not only as an honor for woman but also to document the impressive achievements made by the Omani woman during the last 40 years. The Omani woman has been an active partner in the development process in this country. Moreover, she has made great strides in making exclusive achievements for women, he added.
‘The institutes, schools and universities and jobs are buzzing with Omani women. The number of women workers outweighs the number of men in the Health Ministry and Education Ministry. They are competing with men in all development fields.
After this there has been two working sessions. During the first session, two working papers were presented on the personal aspects for women's self-building, means to achieve them, woman and the art of persuasion ‘how to attracting the attention of others, change their views and affect them. The second session was a panel discussion for the working group.
The forum will discuss tomorrow (Monday) three working papers on the image of woman in the society, the change of social roles inside the Omani family and woman's incentives for achievement ‘means of measuring and development'.
It is worth mentioning that the Social Development Ministry, in collaboration with a number of public and private organizations, will organize a number of events that touches the social, cultural and sports aspects of life to mark the Omani Woman's Day.
The opening of the forum was attended by a number of ministers, undersecretaries, officials at the governmental departments, private companies and females gathering.
